A colonoscopy is an exam used to detect changes or abnormalities in the large intestine (colon). During a colonoscopy, a long, flexible tube is inserted into the rectum. A tiny video camera at the tip of the tube allows the doctor to view the inside of the entire colon. During the procedure, the provider looks for abnormalities and also removes small polyps.

Preparation for the procedure is crucial, so the Gastroenterologist has a clear view of your colon. If prep is missed or delayed, the provider may be unable to complete the procedure and may result in the procedure being canceled or rescheduled.
